Maria’s Singaporean friends mostly consist of her fellow colleagues at the THK Home for The Disabled. They sometimes head out for meals and spend time bonding over food when their work has ended.
She also mentioned that working with and learning from these hardworking and detailed colleagues has helped to improve her performance at work.
Having spent the past 8 years in Singapore, Maria appreciates the country’s safety, cleanliness and accessibility the most – constantly praising the convenience of the local transport system. She has also grown accustomed to the food here, with Laksa and Ban Mian being some of her favourite dishes. Maria also looks forward to shopping during the annual Great Singapore Sale.
Together with her friend from the Philippines who is also a fellow healthcare worker, Maria occasionally takes time out to chat with the elderly at a hospital. She also helps to volunteer at her Church whenever her schedule allows it.
Maria feels that racial harmony is important for people who grew up with different cultures to learn more about each other so that they are able to interact well and work together.
